Ok so I just wanted to share the foods and supplements I take that have helped with my overall health and post concussive syndrome. I love food but like to focus on simple, whole unprocessed foods, and I keep sugar to a minimum. Fats have gotten a bad reputation in the diet business. Despite certain diet claims, fats are important. They comprise a significant part of a normal diet, because you need to eat an adequate amount of healthy fats to maintain your overall health. Fats are an excellent energy source, as well as building materials for cell membranes and hormones. In fact, your cell membrane is essentially 2 layers of diglyceride fatty acids, which is partially why they’re essential in a healthy diet. I think fats are so good for us, not the fats found in an In N Out burger with fries, but the fats in whole foods that are rich in omegas 3 and 6. These include: avocados, fish, eggs, coconut oil, nuts, green leafy vegetables, etc…
Just to clear things up, unhealthy foods which lead to body fat, are not healthy fats. Consuming healthy fat does not mean we will become fat. It may be surprising to learn that fats can also help metabolic functions.
I try to stay away from foods that cause inflammation in the body. Consuming the right foods help. Turmeric is one of the most powerful natural anti-inflammatories. Recipe for an anti inflammatory shot below! Other anti-inflammatory foods and supplements include: green leafy veggies, beets, walnuts, blueberries, coconut oil, flax and chia seeds, and many more. It is also important to avoid foods which cause inflammation.
Water is the most important substance our bodies need. We need water to break down and metabolize every food group; as well as for transporting nutrients and removing waste around the body. Water also helps flush the lymphatic system, which is important because a sluggish lymphatic system can lead to a wide variety of health issues, including inflammation and low immunity. Just be sure to consume as much water as you can, at least 3 to 4 liters a day. I would even recommend adding lemon to your water! Drinking tea is important, and you can find a tea catered to you and your health preferences at any grocery store (make sure it is an organic, quality tea).
Green juice! I drink at least one glass of green juice a day. If you have a juicer at home and have time than you should 100 percent make it. Luckily, these days it is so readily available and easy to find. Try to buy organic and cold pressed juices and ones without fruit added. Drink on an empty stomach for the best nutrient absorption.
